Wrap it up

Re-routed, reviewed, rewound, patted down

Back in the big D.  After having the most stressful flight experience ever, i have learned a few more things about flight etiquette. 

1) Always ALWAYS keep your I.D on you at all times, not in a pocket where it could fall out, but zipped up stowed away, this applies to your money and phone.

2) Always bring a list of important phone numbers, and keep it separate from your phone, incase you lose it.  

3) Bring tissues

4) Bring change for pay phones, in case you lose yours, or it dies.

5) Check to make sure you have everything you need before you get out of the car.

6) Have a backup plan incase you miss a flight.

7) Make sure all your liquids are tightly sealed. 

I learned all these the hard way on my nearly 18 hour trip back home.  I had the trifecta, no I.D, no phone, no money.  On top of that I missed my last connecting flight and had to drive the three and a half hours from Charlotte back to Durham.

Now that I am actually home I am dashing to get everything back in working order.  Tomorrow is a beach day with Sara and the M boys.  I cant even think about work or school quite yet.

I just want your kiss

Bloody bad day today.  Between a horrible hangover, a hard decision and feeling generally despondent, today was complete shit.  Tomorrow I leave for California, which means a six hour plane ride, and lugging around my weight in bags.  I haven't even got any of my flight details yet because my fucking mother messed everything up.  

On a brighter note, I got to meet A's friend Durga today.  They came over for a short bit to watch the Olympics with me.  Today was mainly Mens sync swimming and gymnastics.  It was quite wonderful to watch.  The USA mens gymnastics team won a bronze today in the team competition, with Japan getting the silver and China receiving the gold.  Also, Michael Phelps won another gold medal today, actually I think it was two.  

My camera chord still has not arrived, so photos are not to be coming up anytime soon.

The bitchy witchy Jenny from Gossip Girl seems to be climbing the ladder to teen stardom.  She was recently signed to IMG Modeling Agency.  These are a few of her test shots, and she looks nothing like the Jenny we all love to hate.  Will we see her on billboards soon, or should it just stick to Serena and Chuck.

I think I am going to cry!

Be Your Own Pet, the wonderful foursome we all adored has decided to part ways.  Their new music video, Becky will be their last.  I wonder why my favorite band is splitting?  

Saturday night we drove to Philly to go to the Material Culture party.  It was fun even though my cam died.

George hired Tibetan Monks to work at Material Culture, they were so amazing.  

The store was amazing, and so was the party.  Check out the web page here.  It is basically the most amazing import store ever, and for what these things are they are so nicely priced.  George ended up giving us two of the quilts, and I love mine!!  We stayed in the Ritz in Philly, and I had my own suit.  It was really a wonderful time.  Sunday after shopping we drove back to the city with a stuffed car.

I am completely obsessed with music video's, always have been, always will be.  When a band I love has none, I get fairly bent out of shape, and likewise when they produce one I am stoked.  The Virgins finally have a second vid and it is slamming.  Check out Rich Girls here 

Now I just have to keep watching over and over until the show.

I finally found a second, and an internet connection to catch up on blogging.  

It was great being back in the city.  The plane and taxi rides were both very stressful as they always are.  The show was amazing, I definitely want to see it again sometime soon.  We ate at my favorite Italian place, Ginero's.  I was glad to be back, but a little bummed that we spent so little time there.  It has been buz buz buz from one state to another since I arrived.  After NYC we headed over to Philly, then back to NYC for another day, and then drove up to North Hampton, Massachusetts.

Puddle Hopper

Tomorrow I leave for New York, and then philly, and then Northampton, Massachusetts.  I am going up to shop, and visit with my dad and his partner.  It is going to be a hectic week, but I am exited.  My plane does not leave until nearly four in the afternoon tomorrow, but being obsessive, I have already packed, and gotten everything ready for tomorrow.  I have been trying to learn the art of packing light ever since my luggage got lost for nearly two weeks and I turned into a charity case.  I have skimmed down my luggage to just one little duffle, and my computer bag with all my my chords and electronics stuffed in.  All in all I end up teetering to one side with the weight of all my bags.  I hate the pesky rule of only being allowed to bring two carry on bags, because this means that I end up having to pack my day wear bag into my duffle bag.  

Recently Picked Picks did a post about traveling, and posted some very helpful tips.  I decided that in the spirit of traveling I would add a few of my own.  

1) For plane wear, always consider what you are going to be doing once you get off the plane.  If you happen to know that you will be going out, then try and wear something versatile that can be both plane appropriate, and also nice enough to wear out.  It is usually much more convenient than packing an alternate outfit and having to change into it once you arrive at your destination.  Large layered outfits always have been my best friends on planes, because jeans can get restricting, I suggest longer/wider skirts or leggings so that you can curl up or stretch out easily.  Also always always bring a large scarf along.  They can come in handy for reasons such as a blanket when one is not provided, and also can help hide away from any creepy fellow passengers.  

2) Don't try and fool the security guards.  Put all the liquids you have into smaller bottles (wall-mart, target, CVS), and don't try to get away with bringing any sort of knives of scissors (all though if the blade is under four inches and the tips are rounded then they are okay).  It is no use to try and fool these people, because if they find you out, then they might very well empty out your whole bag and un-earth some things that you would not like the whole security line to see.  You can find a whole list of the approved items here.

3) Bring a book to read.  Magazines can be fun, but they also don't last very long, and usually get thrown away once you are done with them.  For long layovers and the always possible delay, books tend to provide the best entertainment.  I personally love the trashy books because they can distract you from the airport bustle, but the bustle wont distract you from the book.  

4) I am not sure if outside food is allowed, but if it is then bring your own.  Airport food is overpriced and not usually very good.

5) For some people (like myself) flying is one of their least favorite things to do.  For you guys I suggest bringing sleeping pills, or maybe some sort of legal depressant or sedative.  It will make the flight so much easier, and usually you will feel better on arrival.  

6) Don't wear much makeup.  On long (or even short) flights makeup can get easily smeared, or rubbed off, and can leave you looking like a raccoon with a bad skin problem by the time you de-plane.  Bring a light face wash and makeup with you in your carry on if you need to look nice when you emerge from the airport.  If you are a person who cant leave the house without makeup on, then i suggest just a light mascara and a light powder to tide you over.  Hair should likewise be simple because no matter what the airplane seats will mess it up.  

7) Wear shoes that can easily be slipped on and off.  Security check points are a hassle to avoid, and it is also annoying to walk around the airport barefoot until you can find a decent place to sit down and put the shoes back on.

One of the big trends for fall this year is the Country Look.   Lots of plaids and tweeds, and all sorts of chunky boots and heavy layering.  Growing up in rural North Carolina and spending my vacations visiting Washington and New England, I grew up around this kind of style.  It was never considered cool, or fashionable to wear big plaid shirts under denim jackets, or to belt a tweed coat.  For the people I grew up surrounded by, it was just another way to keep warm.  The big chunky boots that seem to be so popular these days, are the same kind that we used to have as kids to much around in,  and the baggy pants and unlaced shoes are what we would wear when we were on our way to the river.  It is interesting to see childhood fashions glamed up, and I am in no way against this new fad; I just urge people to not take it lightly, because if not structured correctly, you could very easily look like your on your way to feed the cows.  

Parade of the Wolf

Pat and me went to the Wolf Parade show at the Lincoln theater last night.  

It got really packed really quick.  

They played amazing, and it was hard not to dance, so I don't understand why most people were just bopping their heads.   I was exhausted by the end, but happy to have had the chance to go!!

Me and A went to go see the She & Him show at the Cradle Monday night.  It was so amazing, my heart felt like it was going to drop out my butt.  It was such an amazing show!!  Before hand, in Weaver street we actually spotted Zooey doing some pre-show shopping.  I love my celebrity spotting eye.  Sadly there was a pretty severe no picture rule, so I don't have any.

All in all Bele Chere was cool, we didnt quite get the whole experience since we were running around all day with Kelsy, and then shopping before all the shops closed, but it was fun anyway.  It felt a little bit like the state fair, center fest, and the eno all mixed into one.
